A Kashmiri youth was detained in Kolkata on Thursday for allegedly posting anti-India comments on Facebook, according to media reports.
Arshad, who sells shawls and woolen garments, was staying at a guest house in south Kolkata’s Anwar Shah Road area at the time of the incident.
The Times of India reported that Arshad was taken to the Lake Police Station by nearby residents, who said they were offended by his comments on the social media website.
A police officer was quoted as saying: “Arshad has been coming to the city for the last 12 years for his garment business. Every time he used to stay at this particular guest house and became friends with some locals who noticed his activities on Facebook and informed us. A team of intelligence officials from the state and the Centre have been interrogating him. Officers of the Special Task Force also questioned him.”
