Ten Chinese aircraft conducted what appeared to be training exercises in the skies over the Sea of Japan on Thursday, China’s Global Times reports, citing a press release on the Japanese Ministry of Defense website.

The release included a graphic (above) depicting the routes of the Chinese planes, which included eight bombers, and a surveillance aircraft. Though the planes traveled across the same path, different aircraft went in different directions, giving the appearance of a military training exercise.
Japan scrambled fighter jets in response to the aircraft, which crossed over skies between Okinawa and Miyako-jima, and rounded Taiwan, the Global Times said.
