A Facebook post about an Indonesian domestic worker – taking selfies with a friend at a shopping mall in Chai Wan on Hong Kong Island during working hours – has gone viral on social media recently.
On Wednesday afternoon, Ricky Wong Sze-chin, a former member of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB), uploaded a video and photos about the maid and her friend on his Facebook account.
According to his post, the maid was supposed to be taking care of an old woman, who was seen shaking on her wheelchair. Worried that the old lady could be feeling cold, Wong suggested to the domestic worker that she take the old lady home, instead of spending time taking selfies.
But the maid replied to Wong in Cantonese that the old woman’s condition was normal. “She is always shaking like this. Why did you scold me?” the maid said, adding that she had not left the old woman alone or unsafe.
The video had been viewed 1.8 million times and shared more than 15,000 times as of noon on Friday.
Netizens had different views about the incident. Some criticized the maid for neglecting the old woman and taking selfies with her friend during working hours.
But others slammed Wong for wrongly assuming that the old woman, who could have Parkinson’s disease – which causes patients to shake –was feeling cold.
Some netizens said Wong had opened a “public trial” against the maids by posting their pictures on Facebook.
Stupid people who likes gossip and busybody. That has mr wong nothing to do he tought posting vedeo gain plus to him. Whst is wrong with selfie? As long as she did not neglect her duty.. and old woman was taken care.. if i am the helper i dont work with you.. if you have help i think she is working like a hell.. stupid..
Rammoyan Malinang she is on holiday.bcoz there no one looked after the the elderly and it was allowed by the employer to bring her along.
And you know she is took care of the elderly for 6 years.

Well now she sue the man,reported him back to police by suggested of her employer,that he posted their video without ask for permission,that was in her day off,the employer still lucky to have her,she still can bring the elderly along during her off day,without paying,she do it sincerly bcoz no one will take care of elderly when she goes out.
I hope the hk police can kick him to jail
He has no right to take a video of someone without permission, but even then you are not supposed to be doing selfies instead your attention should focus only towards your employer.
What about personal data? Did Wong get the helper’s consent before posting publicly?

Either you take care by yourself or put them in the nursing home or hire some expensive professional nurse to.take care of them

Some are just busy body, in any way that co dh never put that old madam in harm, she did selfie but never gone far from old madam…dont you think that taking care granda ma or grand pa is really tiring and need to be patience,.. we do house chores while taking care of them… if you think no helper who would taking care for them?that if employer willing to look after of them.. although we are just helper we need some respect…why so busy body if the employer knows they went out for a walk..

Sometime domestic helper have no holiday bcoz of taking care of elderly or sometime they need to Bring along the elderly on their holiday.
So its totally very nose for the person who take photo and share the video.
Without knowing or asking nicely 1st.
