The Chinese hospital treating sick Nobel Peace laureate Liu Xiaobo said on Saturday that his cancer is in the final stages and that a German and a US doctor had seen him and offered “full approval” of their treatment of him.
Liu, 61, was jailed for 11 years in 2009 for “inciting subversion of state power” after he helped write a petition known as “Charter 08” calling for sweeping political reforms.
He was recently moved from jail to a hospital in China’s northeastern city of Shenyang to be treated for late-stage liver cancer and the hospital said it had invited doctors from the United States and Germany to help with Liu’s treatment.
In a short statement, the hospital said that Joseph M. Herman of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the United States and Markus W Büchler of Germany’s University of Heidelberg had seen Liu on Saturday afternoon, a consultation also attended by the Chinese experts treating him.
The team listened to his medical history, heard a report on his treatment, visited Liu and met his relatives and then discussed his illness, the hospital said.
“The US and Germany experts fully approved of the treatment by the national experts group and what they had done,” it added.
The patient has received a high level of care, but he has late-stage liver cancer which has spread and is in its final stages, the hospital said, adding it is looking at medical options to raise his chances of survival.
Calls have grown from rights groups, international bodies and western governments for China to allow Liu to travel with his wife Liu Xia to be treated overseas.
Diplomatic sources in Beijing say China has been nervous that the concerns over Liu could overshadow President Xi Jinping’s appearance at a summit of the Group of 20 nations in Hamburg, Germany, which ends on Saturday.

He will complete his mission when he reincarnates into a Western dissident,
Low Shen-Cheang —You brought up the point for which I talked about translation. Highly intelligent people like you and all the Chinese lawyers understood the criminal law incorrectly, the lawyers hired by Mr. Liu Xiaobo were no exception. Article 105 of the criminal law should be understood as "to win state power in elections", or "to fight for state power in elections". But unfortunately all the lawyers and you understood it as "to subvert the Chinese government". Of course, how can private citizens be able to subvert a powerful government unless they are helped by foreigners=your charge. On the other hand, if we understand the Article 105 to mean "to win state power by ellections", no foreigner will be needed. Period.
Wood Wu to be a leader you either follow the existing workable system and work your way up, or you pick up arms because you don’t believe the system work. Liu and the like did neither. They want foreigner to do the fighting for them.
Low Shen-Cheang —The Article 79 of the Chinese constitution gives the right-to-rule-China to any Chinese citizen of the age of 45. The Article does not require any experience nor any credential nor any party-affiliation. Is the Chinese constitution cheating?
All democractic dissidents were accused of vilating Article 105 of the criminal law, which says 颠覆国家政权, which does not say颠覆中国.
颠覆国家政权and颠覆中国have different Englsih translations. 颠覆国家政权should be translated into "to fight for the power to rule over China", while颠覆中国should be translated into "to subvert China".
When a 45 year old Chinese citizen fights for the power to rule over China, he or she will show the people what kind of experience, credential, political affiliation he or she has. If the people do not believe him or her, the people will not vote him or her. It is not up to you to say who is a simpleton or a bookworm. Were Mr. Mao Zedong and company simpletons?
Liu`s crime is in working with foreign agents to subvert China through spreading falsehood about government and policy, intention was to benefit foreign agents that want China to loss it’s competitiveness.
As for 08 charter, only simpletons believe quick fix by inexperience bookworms that have zero credential.in running their own life. Just look at his disident friends in US who have nothing to show except scandals, that tell us more of their ability.
If you want a Nobel Prize quickly, just openly confront China. The Nobel Committee prostitutes itself and destroys its prestige by playing politics for the Americans. The value of a Nobel Prize is now shit.
I believe the two Chinese characters Dian Fu (颠覆) in the Article 105 of the Chinese Criminal Law do not mean "subversion". Instead they mean replacement, or substitution, because Article 105 was exclusively applied to all democratic dissidents including Mr. Liu Xiaobo. Every democratic dissident wants to replace or substitute the current one-party system with a multi-party system, as was evidenced by Mr. Liu’s paper "08 Charter". The current Chinese rulers, the Communist Party of China, of course do not like to be replaced or substituted by any other party. If Mr. Liu and friends incite replacement or substitution, the Chinese court accuses then of violating Article 105 of the Criminal Law. But Chinese dissidents and their lawyers do not know that, replacement or substitution of the current Chinese rulers is stipulated in the Chinese Constittution, specifically Article 79 of the current Chinese Constittution. This means, Article 105 of the Chinese criminal law contradicts Article 79 of the Constitution. It is clear, their ignorance of the contradiction between the criminal law and the constitution is caused by understanding 颠覆 to be subversion.
Western media low life again is trying to use a dying man for propaganda completely disregarding the feelings of his family. The editor and Reuters are scumbags!
