A 62-year-old Hong Kong man who indecently assaulted his niece during a newborn-celebration banquet was jailed for 44 days by  Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday.

The defendant, who works as a taxi driver, had earlier been convicted of one count of indecent assault and one count of common assault.

On July 17 last year, the defendant and his 27-year-old niece attended a banquet in Tsim Sha Tsui to celebrate the birth of a baby with other relatives and friends, Sing Pao reported.

The court earlier heard that the defendant put his left arm around the niece’s neck forcefully. Then he grabbed her right breast for a minute while she was holding the baby as photos were taken.

The court heard that a red mark was left on her breast.

The niece reported the incident to police five days after the banquet.

According to Oriental Daily, the defendant pleaded for leniency, saying he touched his niece’s breast by accident, but the judge said the case was serious.

After the court considered his health condition, the man was jailed for for six weeks and two days.
