The Asahi Shimbun has reported a series of “slow-slip” events in Japan’s Nankai Trough, the anticipated source of a massive offshore earthquake in the future that would devastate the country’s heavily populated Pacific coastal areas.
The activity was observed in the Nankai Trough in the Kumano-nada region off Mie Prefecture coast, according to experts from the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology and the University of Tokyo.
