Supporters of the separatist group Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha hurled gasoline bombs at a Trinamool Congress party office during a march on Wednesday in Kalimpong, near Darjeeling, according to media reports.

PTI reported that during the protest, one shop was destroyed but no one was injured. On Tuesday, GJM chief Bimal Gurung said the group’s indefinite shutdown of the strife-torn region would continue.

With the strike now in its 21st day, the situation in Darjeeling remains tense. Internet service remains suspended in the Darjeeling hills for the 18th consecutive day, PTI reported, adding that shops (except for pharmacies), restaurants, hotels, schools and colleges are still closed.

Since June 8, the region has been paralyzed by protests led by the GJM, which is seeking a separate state called Gorkhaland. Two people have been killed in the unrest.
