Rohit D Tilak, the national coordinator of the Youth Congress and the great-great-grandson of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak, has been booked by police in Pune on various charges including rape, according to police.
Based on a complaint lodged by a 41-year-old woman, police filed a First Information Report, according to media sources. IANS quoted an official as saying, “He has been booked under Indian Penal Codes’ Section 376 (rape) and other charges. Further investigations are on in the matter.”
The victim has known the accused since 2015. He allegedly raped her and had unnatural sex with her multiple times on various occasions after promising to marry her. The victim complained that he abused her whenever she raised the topic of marriage.
IANS reported that in addition to the rape and unnatural sex charges, Tilak, who has not yet been arrested, has been charged with various counts of assault, criminal intimidation and issuing threats to the victim.
