Former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam said on Wednesday said that the central government has agreed to issue a commemorative coin featuring the late M G Ramachandran, a Tamil Nadu chief minister and founder of the AIADMK, PTI reported.
Panneerselvam, who was head of the government until January, asked the government to issue a special coin and a special postal stamp commemorating Ramachandran’s birth centenary being celebrated this year.
He said in a statement, “Heeding my request, the Union Finance Ministry sent me a letter on July 17 saying the central government has decided to issue a commemorative coin on the occasion of the birth centenary of Puratchi Thalaivar (Revolutionary Leader-MGR).”
M G Ramachandran, who was born on January 17, 1917, founded the AIADMK in 1972 and served as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu between 1977 and 1987.
