Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday in response to a question on North Korea, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang hit back on criticism that China is not doing enough to reign in the Kim regime.

Geng said that ulterior motives, or lack of understanding of the dynamics of the Korean peninsula, has led some to give prominence to a “China responsibility theory.”

“The focal point of the Korea nuclear problem is not China. China is not the one driving the escalation in tensions,” Geng stressed. He added that Beijing hopes each party can return to the “right track” of dialogue soon.

“The ‘China responsibility theory can have a rest now,” Geng added at the end of his response.
