Following scandal surrounding suicides in iPhone manufacturer Foxconn’s Shenzhen factory in southern China, the company started a fresh manufacturing complex in 2010.

Just seven years after the start of construction in Zhengzhou, the “iPhone city” is now home to some 250,000 employees, reports the Wall Street Journal, the population of a smaller mid-sized US city.

Some worry that the city’s fortune is tied squarely to that of the iPhone, sales of which declined for the first time in 2016, but Chinese officials seem confident that the skills learned in these jobs will be useful moving forward.
