Security was stepped up in New Delhi ahead of the annual International Yoga Day celebrations, which drew legions of VIPS to the capital amid fears of terrorist attacks.

Despite heavy rains, hundreds came together to celebrate the 3rd International Yoga Day in different parts of the city. PTI reported that Delhi police erected barricades and conducted intensive vehicle checks. At Connaught Place, police parked empty buses at entry points as an added security measure.

VIPs such as Union ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Vijay Goel, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the BJP’s presidential nominee, Ram Nath Kovind, attended the event, according to NDTV.

The Ramlila Ground yoga event was presided over by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik.
