Three men were arrested for drug trafficking and HK$2 million (US$256,659) worth of cocaine was seized in a customs drug bust in Yau Ma Tei last Friday afternoon.
Officers from the Customs Drug Investigation Bureau (CDIB) and the Ports and Maritime Command intercepted the trio at 4pm in the middle of a drug deal in an outdoor carpark on Man Wui Street, Ta Kung Pao reported.
Two Filipinos, a 48-year-old merchant sailor and an unemployed 36-year-old, and a 36-year-old Colombian, who is a torture claimant applicant in Hong Kong, were arrested, Apple Daily reported.
The 2.1kg of cocaine was sandwiched and sealed inside two pairs of insoles carried by the 48-year-old Filipino.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment.
