A vigilant motorman averted a possible train accident on Saturday night when he spotted an iron rod lying on the tracks between Vasai and Nallasopara stations in Mumbai.
According to reports, when the Mumbai local train was nearing Nallasopara station at about 9:30 pm, motorman Nitin Chandan Shive spotted the hazard and applied the brakes.
A Western Railway spokesman was quoted as saying, “He handed it over at the Andheri railway station. Prima facie it seems construction laborers left it there.”
Around 10 construction laborers were working on an overhead bridge near Nallasopara railway station, and identical rods were found at the construction site. However, the laborers denied leaving the rod on the tracks.
An inquiry is under way.
