A 19-year-old mainland Chinese man who was due to start college in the United States this year plunged to his death on Wednesday morning after jumping out of his bedroom window in Hong Kong’s Sai Wan Ho.

At 7.30am, the man – surnamed Sun – took his own life at Yat Wah Mansion, in the Lei King Wan neighborhood, Apple Daily reported. He sustained multiple traumatic injuries to his head and body, and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Police officers found no suicide note, but preliminary investigations suggest he had recently been troubled by family matters and by academic anxieties.

The secondary school graduate migrated to Hong Kong a number of years ago with his parents and was reluctant about going to study in the US this coming academic year, Sing Tao Daily reported.

Sun’s father, stricken with grief at the loss of the family’s only child, was admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for a check-up.
