A scene from The Fast and the Furious played out on New Territories roads on Tuesday, as a man and woman led multiple police cars on a 14-kilometer high-speed chase in a stolen black Mercedes-Benz.

The 28-year-old man, surnamed Ho, and 18-year-old woman, surnamed Tse, both from Hong Kong, were arrested and face a number of different charges in addition to dangerous driving and taking conveyance without authority.

The chase started at about 4pm, when police saw Ho, a construction worker, talking on a mobile phone while driving, which is not permitted in Hong Kong. They ordered him to pull over to the roadside, but Ho ignored the order and accelerated, Metro Daily reported.

Several police cars gave chase for 14 kilometers until traffic congestion near Sha Tin Plaza blocked the way. The Mercedes-Benz bumped two other vehicles in an attempt to find a clear path but was quickly surrounded by 13 police cars.

Police arrested Ho and Tse at the scene. Drug-taking paraphernalia was found inside the vehicle, which had been stolen in Yuen Long last year, Headline Daily reported.

Ho faces seven charges, including dangerous driving, using a mobile phone while driving and taking conveyance without authority. Tse faces three charges, including possession of another person’s Hong Kong Identity Card and using a copy of a false instrument. The duo had prior convictions for drug-related offenses, police said.
