Macau authorities arrested seven people last week in a joint operation for various immigration violations in a major sweep of pubs and clubs in the former Portuguese enclave, local media reported on Monday.
Three men and four women were arrested for overstaying their visas in the city, Macau police said at a press briefing on Monday. The nationalities of the people arrested were Chinese, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese and Filipino.
Among those arrested, a Filipino woman, was referred to the Public Prosecutions Office because authorities suspected her of making false declarations and forgery of documents, Macao Daily News reported.
Authorities swooped on various entertainment venues, nightclubs and pubs in Macau and Cotai from 11pm on Friday till 4.30am on Saturday, with a total of 1,401 people intercepted, Jornal Do Cidadao reported. Of those, 57 men and 17 women were taken in for further questioning.
The Unitary Police Service will coordinate further cooperation with officers from the judiciary and public security to monitor the city’s security and prevent crime.
