A brave 30-year-old Mumbaikar fought off five robbers in true Bollywood fashion on the Eastern Express Highway, but they nevertheless managed to make off with his US$2,800 gold chain, according to media reports.

Gaurav Nanjani, the manager of a top fast-food restaurant in the city, was waiting for his colleague to pick him up at the Bhandup pumping station when he was attacked.

An unidentified man came up to Gaurav and asked him to share a taxi. When Gaurav declined, he became argumentative and took out a knife. Soon, another man appeared and started abusing Gaurav.

“I pushed one of them away, who fell. The other one then pulled out a knife held it to my neck,” said Nanjani.

Three more men then rolled up on motorcycles and one of them snatched Nanjani’s gold chain, the Hindustan Times reported.

Nanjani said, “I ran a few meters away from them and raised an alarm. There were around 10 people at a tea stall. All of them merely watched and nobody came to my rescue.”

Nanjani was on his way to the Mumbai airport to fly to Goa for a vacation, which he was forced to cancel due to the robbery.

A case was filed and the police are investigating.
