Video showing a Mercedes-Benz car being driven on a highway in Tai Po, in Hong Kong’s northern New Territories, trailing a three-meter-long gas pipe has gone viral on the internet.

At around noon on Sunday, Apple Daily reports, a male driver pulled away a pipe from a gas station without knowing it, before driving along the Tolo Highway towards Kowloon. Another driver, surnamed Chow, took a video with his car camera, from near Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, and posted the footage on a Facebook group for drivers.

Chow said the Benz driver, who seemed to be elderly, drove for some time before stopping. He said friction between the pipe and the road could have caused sparks and triggered a fire or an explosion on the highway. He said not only the driver but also staff at the gas station should bear some responsibility for the incident.

The police is investigating the case, according to Under Hong Kong law, the driver could be fined up to HK$5,000 (US$642) and jailed for three months for failing to keep all heavy items inside his car.
