Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway service on the East Rail Line was delayed for an hour on Sunday morning after a 24-year-old local woman dropped her handbag and jumped in front of an approaching train at Tai Wai Station.
At 8:15am, the woman surnamed Yip deliberately jumped off the end of Platform 1 while a Lo Wu-bound train was arriving at the station, according to closed-circuit television footage, Metro Daily reported.
Emergency brakes were applied but it was too late to stop the train. Yip was hit and trapped under the wheels. She was pronounced dead by firefighters at the scene.
After graduating from university a year ago and finding work as a teaching assistant in a secondary school in Sha Tin, Yip had told her 60-something parents two weeks ago that she was having difficulty sleeping because of acute work-related stress.
A preliminary police investigation ruled out foul play and the death was listed as a suicide, Apple Daily reported.
Because of the incident, the MTR arranged emergency feeder bus services to help passengers leave the station until service was resumed at around 9:15am.

Can you imagine a person working as early as 5:30 am till midnight?
That’s us helpers,but we never think of killing ourselves. We have great courage and imessurable endurance.

ito ung dahilan na mastranded kami sa tunnel pinaatras ung train pabalik sa station unang sinakyan namin pinababa kami dahil sira un pala nakadali sa babae tapos pangalawa sira nanaman pangatlong train kaso bumalik din sa pinanggalingan nmin dahil may aksidente daw sa taiwai station
