Two juveniles allegedly murdered a 22-year-old man after an argument in north Delhi’s Subzi Mandi area on Tuesday evening, according to media reports.

The police said the victim, Angad Gupta, was on his way home from a relative’s house when he was passed some locals playing cricket and their ball hit him in the stomach. Gupta slapped one of the juveniles after a heated argument, a report in the Hindustan Times said.

A senior police officer was quoted as saying, “Gupta reportedly slapped one of the teenagers, which angered them and they pinned him down. They, however, let him go when the locals intervened. Later, when the two teenagers found him taking a stroll in a lane they cornered him again. They hit him with a bat on the head twice and Gupta collapsed. He started bleeding from his mouth. The boys then fled the spot.”

Gupta succumbed to a head injury in hospital. His body was sent for a postmortem examination.

The bat with which Gupta was hit was recovered and the accused were apprehended. They will appear before the juvenile justice board.
