A car cleaner is facing charges after he allegedly took a vehicle for a test drive without the knowledge of the owner and ran over a pregnant woman and her relative in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi, on Tuesday. The woman was killed and her relative was critically injured.
Pooja, 21, who was four months pregnant, and her relative Kamlesh were washing utensils after lunch at the construction site where they were working as laborers when the car hit them. According to reports, the owner of the car, Manoj Jain, had left his car key with his cleaner, Kishan Kumar, who decided to test his motoring skills but lost control.
Kumar, who suffered injuries despite the airbags being deployed, tried to run away but was caught.
Ram Prasad, Kamlesh’s husband, was quoted as saying, “Kumar got inside the vehicle and started driving it. He lost control and rammed the wall.”
DCP Milind Dumbere was quoted as saying, “A case of causing death due to negligence and negligent driving has been registered against Kumar. The vehicle has been impounded and a challan will be issued to Jain for allowing an unauthorized person to drive his car. Kumar did not have a driving license.”
