A Kochi daycare center owner has been accused of assaulting children, according to police.
The suspect, identified as Mini, was arrested after video footage allegedly showing her assaulting a two-year-old went viral.
According to PTI, the child’s parents secretly recorded Mini after being told that she abused children after they were dropped off by their parents.
The unauthorized center was shut down by the police following the incident, which triggered widespread condemnation and protests.
The State Child Rights Commission has requested a report on the matter from the state government, police and Kochi City Corporation.
Health Minister K K Shylaja told Kaumudi Online that the social welfare department will introduce new rules to regulate daycare centers.
She said: “It’s rather unfortunate what happened in the daycare center in Kochi, and it doesn’t deserve any mercy. The situation that anyone can start a daycare center just anywhere will be changed.”
