A British teenager was arrested by the police in the early hours on Tuesday after being accused of stealing a can of beer and a pack of potato chips in a convenience store in Wan Chai in Hong Kong Island.
A 33-year-old shopkeeper surnamed Chan alleged the 17-year-old took the drink and snack worth HK$40 (US$5) and ran out the shop located at 1 Mallory Street, Oriental Daily reported. He chased and stopped him and called the police.
Three of the arrested man’s friends later came to the same convenience store and as they failed to show identity cards were taken to the police station for questioning.
An unnamed source told Apple Daily that the alleged thief and his friends were in Hong Kong to study.
