Fear has gripped Kota after swine flu claimed its fourth victim in the district this year. A 23-year-old pregnant woman died in hospital a day after testing positive for the H1N1 virus.

As many as 24 people have been diagnosed with H1N1 in Kota so far this year, PTI reported.

The latest victim to succumb, identified only as Parveen, was admitted to SRG Hospital in Jhalawar on May 12 with labour pains. She was also suffering from a severe fever and cough, Dr KK Sharma, the hospital superintendent, told the news agency.

She went into labor but the baby was stillborn. The woman was declared H1N1 positive on Monday and died around 1 am on Tuesday.

Relatives of those who have tested H1N1 positive have been given Tamiflu medication.

Medical experts said the rise in the number of cases was unusual in such hot weather. Doctors are surveying the affected areas.
