A foreigner who saw an 18-year-old Hong Kong woman jump off the Central public pier leapt into the sea to rescue her on Sunday afternoon at 3pm.

The woman reportedly became emotional from relationship problems and leaped into the sea off Central Ferry Pier No 4, Oriental Daily reported.

A foreign man saw the woman jump and tried to save her, while passers-by called for police, Ta Kung Pao reported. The report did not say what happened to the foreigner, but divers and firefighters rescued the woman who was conscious during the incident.

Due to the incident, the 3.45pm ferry service to Lamma Island was cancelled.
