China has reportedly tested a new missile in an area near the Korean peninsula. The move follows Chinese warnings to South Korea not to deploy the THAAD US anti-missile defense system.

Taiwan’s Central News Agency said Wednesday that China’s defense ministry had announced the test of a newly developed missile in the Bohai Sea, in the interior gulf of the Yellow Sea, on the coast of northeast China near North Korea. The announcement didn’t indicate when the rocket was tested. But Beijing, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap, reported that China had waited until the end of this week’s South Korean presidential election to make the launch public.
