A 52-year-old Canadian man was sent to jail for 12 week by a Singapore court after he pleaded guilty for two counts of intruding into the privacy of a 28-year-old Indonesian domestic worker at his home last July.

On July 28, 2016, Paul Kwan, a former regional chief information officer, placed a camera on the bottom of a shelf in the toilet at his condominium in the Newton area, Lianhe Zaobao reported. He fitted the lens into a hole in a window scraper with the camera pointing towards the shower stall.

He captured the maid using the toilet in a 17-minute piece of footage on July 30 and a six-minute video of her showering on July 31. He downloaded the videos to his hard disk when the victim went to bed.

On August 1, the victim found the camera when she was cleaning the toilet, The Straits Times reported. She took it to her agent, who called the police.

Domestic workers should be entitled to work in a safe environment with privacy, said District Judge Samuel Chua in sentencing.
