Speaking to Bloomberg News in the Oval Office, President Trump addressed media speculation that chief strategist Steve Bannon may be pushed out of the White House.

Trump said Bannon is likely to stay in his current role, describing him as a “very decent guy” who has gotten a “bad rap.”

Bannon was removed from the National Security Council principals committee last month, amid reports of tensions between him and Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner. While Kushner and other more moderate voices in the White House, such as Gary Cohn, took on more visible roles in the administration, speculation grew that Bannon had lost the confidence of the president.
