A Bangladeshi construction worker was sentenced to 17 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane on Friday for abducting and raping a woman in broad daylight at MacRitchie Reservoir Park in Singapore in 2015.

Pramanik Liton, 24, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration and one count of abduction for illicit intercourse, the Chinese-language Lianhe Zaobao reported.

At 1.45pm on February 8 in 2015, Liton abducted the then 39-year-old Chinese woman who was jogging along the Lornie trail at MacRitchie Reservoir Park at knife-point. He raped her twice and then forced her to perform oral sex.

Liton was arrested at his workplace two days after the rape because Gurkha trackers found a jackknife with his fingerprints at the crime scene in the forest, The Straits Times reported.
