A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbor in central Delhi’s Anand Parbat area on Wednesday. Police arrested a 22-year-old suspect at his friend’s house.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly lured her to his house while she was playing alone outside. When her parents could not find her, they launched a search and learned that she had been seen with the suspect. At his house, they found her bleeding and took her to a hospital, where she underwent surgery.

Rape is the fourth most common crime against females in India, and Delhi tops the chart.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau statistics for 2015, on average, a female is raped every 15 minutes, but experts say the problem is much worse than the official figures suggest.
