The Economist writes this week that Turkish voters will likely vote yes on Sunday to abandon the current system in favor of a strengthened executive office.

While President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s increased powers would push the country towards autocracy, it would be a mistake for Western countries to abandon the important regional power and NATO member. Doing so would risk pushing Turkey into Russia’s arms at a time when Europe is increasingly dependant on its cooperation.
