Nineteen people from South Asia, Africa, Vietnam and mainland China were arrested in a joint labor, immigration and police swoop on three places in Hong Kong.
Police arrested people, aged between 20 and 60, in Sham Shui Po, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok in the joint operation organized by the police, and immigration and labor departments on Tuesday.
A Pakistani man, two Indonesian women, two men and two women from India, two men and six women from Vietnam were also arrested on suspicion of theft, violating their conditions of stay, overstaying and unlawful entry, Oriental Daily reported, citing the police.
Two South African men and one mainland Chinese woman had allegedly overstayed their visas, and one Nigerian man allegedly possessed a dangerous drug, Apple Daily reported.
Separately, two Hong Kong women were also arrested for allegedly having hired people not lawfully employable. All of the people arrested remain in custody while the Immigration Department conducts an investigation.
