A mother and her 10-year-old daughter jumped to their deaths from a flat in Tseung Kwan O Wednesday evening. The 45-year-old housewife was reportedly upset with her husband, who wanted a divorce.

Mother and child were found lying on the footpath at the foot of a block at Residence Oasis estate, near an exit of Hang Hau MTR station at about 6.40pm.

The Primary Five student was confirmed dead at the scene, while the woman died later in Tseung Kwan O Hospital.

Police said they had jumped from the balcony of their 28th floor flat.

Two notes were found left by the pair in their home. Police said the woman’s note revealed that she had been troubled by her relationship with her husband.

The other note, which police suspect was written by the girl, declared that it was her choice to take her life alongside her mother.

But investigators are treating the case as murder-suicide for now.

The woman’s husband – an accountant from a listed firm – and his six-year-old son were not home at the time of the incident. They were later contacted by police.
