Two women from a foreign domestic worker employment agency were arrested by Hong Kong’s Customs and Excise Department on Wednesday on suspicion of violating the Trade Descriptions Ordinance and having provided a false description about a maid to a customer.
The Customs and Excise Department said in a statement on the Hong Kong government’s website that it had arrested a company director, 48, and a saleswoman, 40, after receiving a complaint from an employer who said his newly-hired maid did not have the two-year work experience promised in her curriculum vitae.
The two women were allowed to post bail. The case is being investigated.
Under Hong Kong’s Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any trader who provides a false trade description of services supplied to a consumer commits an offense. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$500,000 (US$64,300) and imprisonment of five years.
Silly employer u are…. many employers also are not following the contract rules…
So,I can file the case with my employer cuz she did not following the law..she didn’t give my right to take a rest..
Some employer easy to complain bt didn’t think theirselve…
Do you want to know how many employers did to a maid such they said ONLY TAKE CARE OF ONE KID but actually they had three kids, grandma, grandpa, pet, three cars have to wash and etc need to take care? Same minimum salary.
The maid have to Sleep after midnight, sometimes clean two houses, no good food? And maid did not complain in order to through the job!
So sad!
No one got the point of this story? Problem is in 2 years of experience which is required by HK Immigration to issue a working permit.
So unkind
silly employer!! for the fact that 90percent of employers do not follow what is written in our contract as well..raise your hand who’s telling no lies here..
Like my sister..she arrived last march 13 ..her job order is to clean 2 cars ..but after all..she clean to flats
The employer only wanted that the hired helper got the experienced about house hold chores and maybe taking care of children! There are some employer that they don’t have the patience to teach the helper! I worked in different families and most didn’t gave me instructions either I just do my own most of the time! I just asked my boss what you want ,and don’t want!, and what do you expect me to do!
Why do they even need to have that requirement? Do they seriously think all the maids who come to work in Hongkong have 2 years of maid experience in the Philippines? Many are graduates from college or universities who didn’t seriously think what kind of a maid job is before applying as a maid in Hongkong due to higher salary compared to the salary of an office employee in the Philippines. It’s just so unfortunate for that agency that someone complained. And btw those agencies asked for big amount of money from those applicants without receipts as it’s against the law to extort money from the applicants. But the applicants still pay those agency the amount they asked as they really want To get the job which looks good when we were back home. Every applicants paid those agencies. Once here, then everything start to sink in
The point is, The HK agent cheated the employer for giving a false curriculum vitae/bio data/resume (whatever you call it.)
It was stated that the hired helper has 2 yrs experience but actually not.
That is the complain of the employer.
Yes u have the ryt to file a case against ur employer..
How this agent gave false information about the maid.So silly. If the helper dont have 2 years experience then tell the truth , whats the big deal for telling the truth…. why they have to lie… hmmm (they want to get money easily?)
