A 35-year-old Gambian asylum seeker was given a 15-month sentence by Hong Kong’s District Court on Monday for an indecent assault and common assault against his local wife’s 64-year-old aunt.
The West African man had married a Hong Kong woman in September 2014 and were living with her aunt in a village house in Tuen Mun in the New Territories. On December 13, 2015, he was in an inebriated state when he assaulted the aunt, who brought him to his senses with some sharp criticism. He was then arrested, Oriental Daily said.
The man had told the court that he was applying to migrate to the United States, where his wife had given birth.
