Diminishing returns from traditional fixed income assets are pushing Asian pension funds and insurers to invest in infrastructure debt overseas.

Bloomberg reports that investors pumped a record US$413 billion into infrastructure investments globally in 2016, with infrastructure spending plans attracting attention, including President Donald Trump’s US$1 trillion pledge.

AMP Capital Investors managing director for Asia, Kerry Ching says that “global infrastructure debt was a very successful strategy and there’s stability in the capital value.”
