Overwhelming e-commerce demand may force Yamato Transport, Japan’s largest parcel delivery service, to stop accepting same-day delivery orders from giant Amazon Japan.

The Mainichi Shimbun quotes sources as saying that surging orders from Amazon for same-day deliveries are forcing short-handed Yamato workers to deliver more parcels at night. Yamato, known globally for its black-and-yellow cat logo, intends to gradually cut the number of same-day orders it takes from Amazon, sources say.

Amazon Japan is expected to rely more on Japan Post Co. and other parcel firms for its same-day delivery services, the report said.
