Actress Shilpa Shetty, her businessman husband Raj Kundra and three other owners of Best Deal TV, a home shopping channel, have been named in a criminal complaint filed by a Mumbai bed sheet manufacturer who claims they cheated him.

Bhiwandi-based businessman Ravi Bhalotia claimed he had sold bed sheets through the TV channel, but he had not been paid the Rs24 lakh (US$37,000) he was owed by the company. Bhalotia’s complaint said the former CEO of the firm, Gaurav Garg, contacted him in May 2015, asking him to sell his merchandise through Best Deal TV. Bhalotia met the actress, her husband and the other three owners – Durshit Indravan Shah, Uday Kothari and Vedant Bali – to negotiate an online shopping deal two years ago.

“They bought bedsheets worth Rs1.5 crore [US$23,000]  from me in 2015. I handed over the items to them, for which they paid Rs1.44 crore in January 2016,” Bhalotia was quoted as saying. “When I approached them, they made several false promises and convinced me to give them another consignment of bed sheets worth Rs18 lakh in July 2016. But they never paid me for it.”

A notice has been issued but arrests were not made.
