Axios first reported that the Trump administration is setting up the first meeting between the US president and Chinese President Xi Jinping, tentatively planned for April 6-7 at Mar-a-Lago. The meeting is likely to be a tense, high-stakes affair, against the backdrop of Trump’s hawkish rhetoric towards China, in contrast to the celebration of US-Japan friendship that was Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit last month. There will reportedly be no golfing this time.
