Two passers-by were injured when a driverless truck rolled down a steep slope for 20 meters on D’Aguilar Street in Lan Kwai Fong in Central district on Hong Kong Island on Thursday.

At 11am, an Indian driver named Ahmed, 48, parked his truck at a crossroad between D’Aguilar Street and Wo On Lane, Apple Daily reported on Friday.

When he and other workers were about to unload some goods, the truck suddenly started rolling down the slope, knocking down a 62-year-old man who injured his forehead and knees.

The driverless truck then bumped into a van that was turning from D’Aguilar Street into Wellington Street and it stopped after hitting a metal railing. A 48-year-old man was cut by metal fragments. The van driver was not injured.

The truck driver said he had pulled the handbrake when he parked the vehicle, but it had malfunctioned, Metro Daily reported. A police investigation is under way.
