There is a huge project underway in China and the numbers are staggering.

As NBC reports, a proposed megacity comprised of the cities of Beijing and Tianjin, and Hebei Province, would be home to 130 million residents covering an area as expansive as New England.

So what exactly is in the plans? The government already approved eight new intercity railways – totaling 700 miles – to be completed in three years to the sum of US$36 billion.

But the project is a long-term one, with a goal of adding 24 intercity railways by 2050.
