A 33-year-old Filipino woman was arrested Friday after she left her two children home alone in a subdivided flat in Sham Shui Po in Kowloon while drinking outside overnight.
At 9 a.m. on Friday, the woman’s five-year-old son and two-year old daughter were found crying by a neighbor at the window of a flat on the tenth floor of Wellcome Mansion on Cheung Sha Wan Road, Sing Tao Daily reported. The neighbor called the police.
The Filipina, a Hong Kong identity card holder, returned home an hour later and told the police that she had gone out for a drink after her kids had fallen asleep at 9 p.m. Thursday. She was arrested by the police for suspected child abuse.
The woman is currently unemployed. Her husband is Tunisian who was in Hong Kong as a refugee and torture claimant, until he was denied re-entry early this year, Apple Daily reported, citing an unnamed source.
The Social Welfare Department said a social worker had already been monitoring the family. The two children are psychologically stable, uninjured and will be provided with childcare services, the department said.
