China and the Philippines finalized a six-year development deal worth US$3.4 billion, as Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Yang visited the Philippines’ president on Friday. The visit comes after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited President Duterte several months ago, when Japan committed to a US$8.7 billion aid package for the Philippines. Reuters reports that Wang’s visit was much more businesslike than was Abe’s, as the Japanese Prime Minister has a close personal bond with Duterte.
