Chinese firms are looking at land around the Panama Canal, as the canal authorities hope to bring infrastructure development to currently unused locations.

Reuters reports that China Communications Construction Corp subsidiary China Harbour Engineering Company and China Railway Group have both shown interest in the project.

The development comes as China continues its push to invest in infrastructure across the globe as part of the One Belt, One Road initiative.
