A 28-year-old mainland man was arrested on Friday evening after he removed the shell of an automated teller machine in a bid to find and retrieve his lost card.
At around 10pm, the man’s card was jammed in an ATM in a Hongkong and Shanghai Bank branch near the Star Ferry Pier in Tsim Sha Tsui, Apple Daily reported. He started shaking the ATM and ignored all other users around him. He successfully removed the shell of the ATM without any tools in about six minutes.
Police arrested the man and no money was lost from the ATM.
As the police found the man’s card in the ATM, he will be charged for criminal damage, instead of theft. The police are investigating whether the man is mentally ill as they found some psychotropic drugs in his bags, Sing Tao Daily reported.
