A 91-year-old woman who went missing on Valentine’s Day was found dead on a beach on Lantau Island Wednesday morning by an expat hiker in a case police categorized as suicide.
At around 10am, the hiker called for police assistance after he saw a body floating off a beach near the Tai Shui Hang public pier, Sing Pao reported.
The body had washed up onto the beach by the time police and paramedics arrived. After a police inquiry, the body was identified as a woman surnamed Lam, who went missing on February 14 from Shau Kei Wan on Hong Kong Island.
Two days after going missing, Lam’s personal belongings were found on the water’s edge at Quarry Bay Park, suggesting she might have jumped into the sea. The Government Flying Service team failed to find the body.
According to an Apple Daily report, Lam was diagnosed with chronic heart disease and had once expressed suicidal thoughts to her family.
