Indian democracy is going through one of its darkest hours as the federal government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is obsessed with power and wants to silence its critics, says Congress party vice president Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Monday in the absence of party president Sonia Gandhi, who is unwell, Rahul Gandhi said the government is threatening civil society for asking questions, and justifying it same in the name of national security.
Referring to the one-day ban on Hindi channel NDTV India, Rahul Gandhi said TV channels were being told to shut down and opposition members were being arrested for questioning the government.
Rahul said such an abuse of state power would only strengthen his party’s resolve to oppose such dangerous plans.
“Asking questions is what discomforts this government the most, for they have no answers. We must in every forum, in particular the upcoming session of Parliament, expose the government’s failures,” PTI quoted him as saying.
The winter session of Parliament starts on November 16.
It would have been better if you had balanced this article by collating view points of people who have lost faith in Congress party. Since its ouster in May 2014, the scion of this grand old party does not have any work in India and is finding himself getting totally side lined due to a very charismatic PM. Thus the need to raise irrelevant issues and frivolous statements from his side.
this what happens if you elect a terrorist and fanatic as leader.
I have been writing on this issue of Mr. Modi’s elections of India. It doesn’t need the expertise of a rocket scientist to look into the present and near future disasters of India. Mossad penetrated into India’s government through finance sector and Bollywood. Why Mossad in India? Rread the Odeh Yinon and the "Protocol of the Eleders of Zion" to understand the ideology of the Zionists despite their whement denial of the authenticity of the Protocol. Modi is a Mossad-CIA mole on a jouney of inner explosion of India’s economy. How? Just follow the money!
AT article has more to do with defending the right of news media than any democractic rights. After all curbs on the media will also restrict their ability to spread propaganda and misinformation.
It is time that all nations restrict the number of foreign editors in their nation by establishing work permits quotas.
