Driverless Test Drive in Dubai

Stepping into the future, Dubai has started driver-less bus service, launching a month-long trial run. This autonomous-electric minibus can be programmed and is claimed to be safe with a maximum speed of 40kmph.

On Thursday, the service began near Burj Khalifa, along a 700-meter stretch of road in downtown Dubai. Reports said the 10-seater was developed by French group Easy Mile and Dubai-based Omnix.

Thanks to cutting-edge guidance technology, this bus can adapt its speed to the surrounding environment and even come to a complete halt if a pedestrian were to cross its path, AFP reported.

It may be programmed to navigate between Dubai’s main tourist attractions, including the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera and the Souk al-Bahar shopping center, the Emirate’s Road Transport Authority (RTA) said in a statement.
