If you are weak-hearted, don’t go down further.

As it has always been the case, this year’s Olympics in Rio, too, has had it own share of wondrous  and horrific moments. One of those most-horrific moments was witnessed when Armenian weightlifter Andranik Karapetyan’s arm “snapped” during the Games.

Karapetyan was competing in the men’s 77kg weightlifting event when his left arm hyperextended.

It was during his second lift that this tragedy took place and the 20-year-old was wheeled away from the bar as he screamed in excruciating pain.

The footage below shows how Karapetyan’s left elbow got dislocated during the men’s 77kg weightlifting final. He was attempting to lift 195 kilos (429lbs). It made his arm bend in the wrong way. He had finished second in the snatch competition and was a strong contender for Gold in the clean and jerk round. As Karapetyan went out of the game, Kazakhstan’s Nijat Rahimov shattered the clean and jerk world record at 77kgs with a lift of 214kgs, giving him an overall total of 379kgs.

Earlier, French gymnast Samir Ait Said had broke his leg in the men’s vault during the team gymnastics event after landing awkwardly, causing him to snap both his tibia and fibula.

Karapetyan was one of the favorites and was hoping to bring home his country’s first gold medal in weightlifting.
